Autumn in Lake Tahoe

Truckee and Tahoe are beautiful any time of year, but Autumn in Lake Tahoe is spectacular. Because of the altitude, Lake Tahoe and Truckee experience the change of seasons prior to the rest of California. Hiking along the many trails, you will find golden aspen quaking in the breeze. The many deciduous trees turn a bright red against the backdrop of alpine forests. I especially enjoy the full moon hikes this time of year.

Oktoberfest

We kick off Autumn with the Oktoberfest in Tahoe City. On October 29th, 2018 from 12 to 5pm at Commons Beach visitors enjoy craft beers, crafts, games and local food. Live music on the beach is presented by The Beer Gardners and traditional Oktoberfest-inspired tunes by accordionist Robert Ludgate.

Halloween Harvest Festival

The first two weekends in October feature the Halloween Harvest Festival at the Resort at Squaw Creek. Bring the kids to this Halloween themed event and celebrate the changing of the seasons. Kids will enjoy apple bobbing contests, fishing derbies, face painting, pumpkin decorating, and more. The two weekends include October 5-7 and 12-14th.

Wine Walk and Shop

On Saturday October 6th, Truckee is holding its annual Wine Walk and Shop. From noon until 4pm guests can enjoy sipping wine as they shop and stroll their way through historic downtown Truckee, California. California wineries are featured with award-winning wines, and are paired with local food tastings. Tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the door.

The Great Trail Race

The Great Trail Race is held on October 7th from 9 to 3pm. You can run or mountain bike and join others in fundraising for the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team. On October 11th, Lululemon is having a trunk show from 4-7pm at Crossfit Blizzard on Pioneer Trail. Both venues are sure to provide an intensive workout.

Annual Truckee River Day

One of my favorite fall events includes the Annual Truckee River Day. On October 14th from 9 to 3pm, you can participate in meadow and wetland restoration around the lake. You will be working side-by-side with other volunteers to plant restoration sites with seedlings and willows, mulch sensitive areas, and more. Thousands of nature-lovers have shown up yearly with their gumboots, buckets, shovels and smiles to take on hundreds of restoration projects throughout the watershed.

Mixology at the Ritz

After a day of helping to preserve the watershed, sneak off to the Ritz Carlton from 4 to 5pm to learn about the Art of Mixology. This entertaining, educational experience will feature freshly cut herbs, classic ingredients such as bitters and infused liquors to create three unique cocktails paired with appetizers. Reservations are required for Truckee River Day and the Ritz Carlton event, so let me know if you need additional information.

Full Moon Hike

And of course, my favorite! The Full Moon Hike this autumn takes place on October 24th from 5 to 8pm. Adventure through the brisk mountain air of Lake Tahoe's pristine forests. After meeting the group and previewing the trip, you will set off into the sunset. Watch the sun cast a purple alpenglow onto the Sierras while hiking through Tahoe's peaceful forest. Traveling by moonlight, knowledgeable guides will discuss Natural History and Astronomy topics as well as fascinating facts about our moon. Trekers will also stop along the way to take in the beautiful views and enjoy snacks and hot drinks. This tour is popular with all levels, ages and abilities.

I love living in Lake Tahoe and look forward to introducing you to the many ways this community comes together to celebrate each season. Whether you are thinking of buying or selling your home in Truckee or Lake Tahoe, I can help you. Contact me today!
